There are several reasons why this might happen. In order to find your WAN IP address EzDNS sends an HTTP request to an Active Server Page on this site. The server detects what your IP address is and stores it in the REMOTE_ADDR server variable. The contents of this variable are then written back out to the response page. EzDNS then receives and parses the response to find and post your address.

Some IP providers (mainly DSL) use Network Address Translatation (NAT). This hardware temporarily changes your IP address as it sends the request out so the outside world doesn't know your "true" IP address. You may not recognize this address, but you should still try to have somebody remotely connect to your site using this WAN IP address that EzDNS gives you as the NAT device will translate it back to your true IP address.

If your computer contains mutliple NIC cards EzDNS might not display the correct WAN IP address. There is no known way to resolve this problem at this time.

If your computer is behind a proxy server or a firewall you must configure EzDNS to use it or else it may display the wrong IP Address. If your ISP has a "transparent" proxy, all http requests on port 80 will be forced through a special proxy server which will result in a different IP address. The solution to this is to contact a web site using a non-tradional port (any port other than 80). Please try visiting the following sites and see if any of them give you the correct IP address. If you find one that does contact us and let us know which one works and we will tell you how to configure EzDNS to retreive this correct WAN IP address.

Although the current version of EzDNS is not a true NT Service, it may be run in the background if you schedule it to start on system startup using task scheduler. Go to Start|Programs|Accessories|System Tools and click on Scheduled Tasks. Click on "Add Scheduled Task" Choose EzDNS Under "Perform this task:" make sure you select the "When my computer starts" radio button. This will allow the app to run in the background even if nobody is logged on. This should simulate a service.
